Alexa traffic rank is search engine that provide you details of your website traffic. I have heard Alexa since I joined Text Link Ads, they use this search engine to decide whether your website is accepted on their program or not as publisher or not.
Its kind irritating to me when I see my website that has higher traffic ranking is actually rank lower in Alexa than my other website, I have no idea last couple month ago, as I am still questioning how the collect that data, after doing couple research on Alexa I found that the use their toolbar to get the data, so the website that has higher rank on Alexa is the one that have most visitor that using Alexa toolbar.  Then yesterday when I submit my new website (Ebook Wholesale Market) into several search engines, I found that you can also install Alexa widget into your website, which will be use on generating data traffic on my website.
Then I begin my experiment, I install the Alexa widget my traffic rank is 2,763,581 then today when I clicked the Alexa Widget it show that my traffic has increase to 2,007,727  well that still pretty huge, but you can see the different traffic details around 75k in 1 day.

Now you know what you have to do to increase your Alexa Rank, you can also check 20 Quick Way to increase Alexa Rank by Dosh Dosh (which I just found out after doing this experiment), and my experiment is one of his way, I think I might try another two or three of his way and see if my rank will increase significantly or not. Let me know if your Alexa Rank increase or not.

I implemented this on my website, see article here, and my ranking has went from around 720,000 to around 320,000 in about a month.
However, it won’t increase in a day. Alexa updates their rankings…apparently every 3-4 days, but I’m pretty sure it’s every 3.
Either way, adding the Alexa widget to your site definitely has positive effects!
I should have done this long ago. I have a fairly good Technorati rank, so it should be a good experiment.
I use FF, and just recently downloaded the toolbar extension created for FF.
I have heard that a lot of people use redirecting links from their site back to Alexa. I don’t know how to do this but they say that it helps to jump the page rank up. I am going to take a look at Dosh Dosh and see what he also says. The more advice I can find, the better.

Any new tips on this. My Alexa ranking is very unstable. It bounces around quite a bit…and I mean by a great deal.
I have kind of decided Technorati is worthless, except to somehow promote yourself. Traffic is key, but I am not sure about all this ranking stuff.

Alexa redirects have been dis-abled.
We had similar experience – our ranking jumped by 1000% in 3 months using the redirects
and a further 2000% after we placed their traffic widget on the home page.

Redirects doesn’t work anymore because it was abused. As for the widget, I think it helped my site’s ranking (http://www.fedmich.com) but only by a little bit. I had made a cron to check my alex every 3 hrs.

This morning I was wondering on how to increase my Alexa rank. Did a google search and read the dosh dosh article and then went down the google list and found your site. Thus far my site has always been in the top 100 page of http://www.rsshugger.com/top100 but I think I will install the Alexa toolbar. Thanks for the info.

@Preeti: alexa recently change the way they calculate the traffic, what you can do now is how to increase your own traffic, and it will eventually increase your rank.
The widget only counts if someone clicks it. I have experimented with this on several sites and this is the conclusion I came to.
@Ghost: thanks for sharing, alexa now have use the new technique to calculate the rank. I’ll keep experimenting and blog about it.
My website went up minimally, however, now it is on a steady downward change, even though the number of alexa users has gone up, and the number of overall users has gone up. WTF? Any ideas?

@Chris: yea that happen to me as well, I think it because more blogs and website are created every day and they have more traffic than yours, even if you have steady visitor everyday, it will keep down if you are not increasing your traffic.

I have never really bothered with Alexa’s traffic ranking. I have been too busy trying to persuade google to rank my web site to bother with alexa however I will try your method and see what happens.

I really never took my Alexa traffic rank in to consideration as I was targeting organic traffic from Google. I’m still curious to how your Alexa rank matters as it doesn’t appear to have a drastic effect on your Google PageRank or keyword optimization.
Hmmm if Alexa does help I’ll have to work on it.

Having Alexa Widget installed on the site doesn’t work all the time. I installed Alexa Widget on my site, telecombooksblog.com, last Friday. It started on 1,097K in rank. Then the rank jumped to 1,090K on Monday. However, it didn’t last long. Today the rank lowered to 1,150K. So I guess the rank is a relative number – some sites must have decent traffic in last two days so their rank jumped and mine got lowers. I probably need to put a month test to see if Alexa Widget can really help on increase Alexa rank. But in the end, content always is the KING.
